After more than twenty years of vacancy, work on the modernist main building of the Kosmos holiday domain on the Rodeberg will start at the end of 2024. The modernist building will house a hotel, café and restaurant.

In 1934, the listed main building opened its doors as a youth hostel. Countless camps and youth movements were housed there. The nearby open-air swimming pool with slides and fountains was a real crowd-pleaser.

Outdoor swimming pool

However, the swimming pool was inaccessible to the emergency services, and its permit was revoked in 2002. The Kosmos was doomed after the closure of the swimming pool. In 2005, the doors of the youth hostel were closed for good.

The open-air swimming pool was demolished in 2010 and replaced by a landscape park.

The Kosmos building stood in disrepair for almost twenty years. In 2014, there were calls to declassify the building so that it could be demolished. Now, salvation seems near. Renovation works will start at the end of 2024 so that the Kosmos can receive guests again in 2034, precisely a century after its opening.
