From the 18th century onwards, European gardens and parks were overrun by follies: useless buildings whose sole purpose was a decorative function. Think of fake caves, ruins of temples, abbeys or castles.
You bump into this brick obelisk at the edge of a forest in northern France. The monument was erected more than two centuries ago.
