Army tanks in Brander Wald

Abandoned US army tanks near Aachen

Brander Wald is not only a 165-hectare nature reserve, it has also been a military domain since 1937, and that is no different today: you cannot enter it during weekdays because the Bundeswehr, the German army, still conducts exercises there.

The yellow-bellied toad thrives there thanks to the many puddle-filled tire tracks left by heavy military vehicles.

Wrecks

The "Tank cemetery Aachen" has four wrecks of light American tanks in store, such as the M41 Walken Bulldog or the M47 Patton from the 1950s. The tanks were used as targets for training purposes.
