Water tower Schlesischen Güterbahnhof

Historic water tower from 1880

A stone's throw from Ostbahnhof station in the German capital, Berlin, you will come across this brick water tower from 1880.

The water tower was part of the freight station of the Schlesischer Bahn. That railway line opened in 1842 and connected Berlin via the Frankfurter Bahnhof (later renamed the Schlesischer Bahnhof and known today as Ostbahnhof) with Frankfurt (Oder).

The freight station disappeared under the demolition hammer at the beginning of the twenty-first century, only this brick water tower remained standing thanks to its protection as a monument.
