Abbey of Saint-Bertin

Ruins of the Abbey of Saint-Bertin

After French revolutionaries chased the monks out of Saint-Bertin Abbey in 1791, demolition began.

One house after another was built in the municipality of Saint-Bertin with the recovered building materials.

Not much of this abbey was left standing by the Second World War, but a bombing raid still destroyed some of the ruins.

Church tower

On July 22, 1947, the tower collapsed, one of the few elements that had not yet been demolished or damaged.
