Fontinettes boat lift

The Fontinettes boat lift in Arques, France, bridges a height difference of 13 meters on the Neufossé canal, which connects the Lys river and the Aa.

The structure was ready for use in 1887 and could lift cargo ships up to 300 tons. From 1967, modern locks took over the work of the boat lift.

The construction company Anciens Établissements Cail (named after its founder) produced parts of the elevator in 1887.
