Industrial heritage in Germany

The cradle of the German lime and cement industry is in Rüdersdorf, where the largest limestone quarry in Central Europe is located.

Chemiewerk Rüdersdorf was founded in 1899 as a cement factory near the city's lime quarries.

Until the middle of the twentieth century, loaded freight wagons rolled by at the Tempelhof railway yard, the boiling steam from locomotives spewed in all directions and smoked like burned coal. The mile-long railway yard was built in 1889 and expanded like crazy.

In 1890, coal mines were popping up like mushrooms in the German Ruhr area. The Zeche Zollern was one of the seventy newcomers you can still visit today.

In every district of Berlin, you will still come across Russian memorials for the soldiers of the Red Army who died in the Second World War.
